I wonder who, if anyone, was blamed for the decision to fire a cannon in the performance or if something else was a more ridiculous factor in the destruction. The prologue of Henry 5, for example, describes the stage as an unworthy scaffold and rhetorically questions whether this cockpit can hold the vasty fields of France to summon the spectre of a battle such as at Agincourt. For this disastrous performance of Henry 8, perhaps the thinking was "Look, we'll have just a cannon shot or three, and not stage a battle. What could go wrong?"
